 “Choices, Chances, Challenges“

Greifswald-Wieck, Hamburg | Germany

This International Youth Exchange brought together 60 young people from Feodosia-Kiev (UA), Kurgan and Tyumen (RU), Bucharest (RO), Liverpool (UK) and Hamburg (DE), under the theme “Choices, Chances, Challenges – Lessan invites young people from East & West to discover diversity in achieving equality for All”.

This East-West exchange took place in Germany – the first week in Greifswald-Wieck at the Baltic Sea and the second week in Hamburg.

The issues addressed were Diversity, Equal Rights and Opportunities, Competences and Values. We looked at problems and needs that challenge young people and how to handle them. The participants were encouraged to deepen their dialogue and intercultural understanding.

Programme and methodology were based in non-formal and informal learning approaches, with participative and playful activities (e.g. workshops on the theme, intercultural nights, group reflections, cultural visits).

The impact of this e.p.a. International Youth Exchange on the young participants is remarkable! They are able to respect diversity in achieving equality, they gained a common understanding of European values, enjoyed an individual growing as well as new competences. Facing the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, this opportunity to come together was appreciated and supported an understanding of conflicts and peace building processes, where the participants cultivated their friendship despite the hatred spread by media and propaganda. In the end all participants received a Youthpass Certificate as recognition of acquired competences.

All participants returned to their countries with more experience, knowledge, tools and enthusiasm that they can use, share and multiply with their friends, youth groups and European communities.
