Youth Exchange
Let’s be active under the rainbow!
Valea Sadului • Sibiu | Romania
16. June 2012 – 30. June 2012
This e.p.a. International Youth Exchange brought together 60 young people and youth workers from Liverpool (UK), Hamburg (DE), Feodosia (UA), Kurgan and Tyumen (two regions of Russia) for two weeks in June 2012 hosted in Valea Sadului and Sibiu (Romania). e.p.a. coordinated the project. Chance for Life hosted this Youth Exchange.
The theme was “Lets be active under the Rainbow”. Young people with fewer opportunities looked at discrimination, social exclusion and their role as Citizens in Europe … struggling with a financial and identity crisis.
Over 14 days the young people presented their projects and communities, learnt about life in Romania, presented their prepared workshops on the theme, shared intercultural insights from their countries and communities, participated in an intercultural evening with self cooked meals, visited places of historical and cultural interest, organised a big play action for 100 children in a SOS children village and enjoyed social interaction with young people from at least 11 nationalities / ethnic backgrounds.
The objectives/outcomes were: increased self confidence, awareness of other European cultures, international friendship, a knowledge of good citizenship and ways young people can challenge prejudices and discrimination.
The programme methodology was daily plenary meetings with creative workshops on the theme (prepared by the young people), small group discussions and visits to youth and cultural projects in Romania, half time evaluation and final evaluation, comments and looking forward.
