Tutti Uguali – Tutti Differenti :

“Free to move, right to stay..!”

 Palermo, Corleone, Addaura | Sicily, Italy

Under the theme: “Tutti Uguali-Tutti Differenti: free to move, right to stay …“, this International Youth Exchange, held in Corleone and Palermo, Sicilia, coordinated by e.p.a., brought together 65 young people from disadvantaged communities in 7 European countries: Hungary, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Germany and Italy- a wonderful model of diversity.  This European Youth Project was co-funded by the EU Erasmus+ Programme and held under the patronage of the City of Corleone.

The programme encompassed: Plenary sessions, Thematic workshops, prepared and performed by each participating group, interactive group work, an exhibition of project presentations – displaying the challenging reality for young people in Europe, training sessions on techniques of interviewing and broadcasting, a guided visit to CIDMA (International Documentation Centre on the Mafia and the Anti-Mafia Movement) Corleone, sessions on the impact of ‘modern’ Mafia on the lives of young people, a poignant workshop on youth exposed to social media abuse, play actions with children from local communities in Palermo, eco-excursions, various methods of evaluation and self-organised festive activities: ‘Festa nel Palazzo Reale Ficuzza’ (40 years of EU funded e.p.a. projects with Sicily), ‘Serata Interculturale’, featuring food and performances, celebrating intercultural diversity.

This European Youth Exchange was an example of social inclusion and solidarity, welcoming young people of all kinds. The participants with 27 mother tongues, gathering for two fruitful weeks, enjoyed non-formal learning with interactive, playful methodologies, encouraging youth participation and strengthening their intercultural competence.

Participants learned from and with each other, they understood the challenges of migration together with young people, who shared their real experiences. In Corleone they gained insights in the mental and democratic changes achieved by local people, enjoyed their Sicilian hospitality and were encouraged to get involved for legality and social justice. The cultural celebrations fostered a sense of unity among young people with diverse backgrounds. Participants enhanced their communication skills, opened their minds and discussed different opinions with respect. Overcoming language borders playfully, they socialized in friendly ways, gained confidence, deepened their understanding of Human Rights and different cultures, widening their horizons.
