    The Atabaques Cultural Corporation began its activities in 2003 in Cartagena de Indias, under the direction of Wilfran Barrios Paz, with a group of people who work continuously in the development of programmes aimed at research, dissemination, preservation and strengthening of the artistic and socio-cultural manifestations of Afro-Colombians.
    Its aim is to contribute to the recognition, respect and exercise of cultural diversity, generating processes of youth empowerment that build peace and social fabric, through the strengthening and development of autonomy, self-esteem and stimulation of creativity, facilitating and providing participation in socio-cultural intervention scenarios.
    The Atabaques Cultural Corporation, for the training of the people who actively participate in all its lines of action; labour, social and artistic, proposes practices with which its members can approach their personal universe from the ritual connection with their interior, offering in this way; a profound vision of memory and ancestry from the art of dancing, this way of approaching dance; creates a conceptual framework that implies being able to know and understand the ways in which the processes of tradition are constructed, its forms of conservation and diffusion; understanding that these are in constant transformation.
