Spielräume

Youth workers opening spaces for youth participation, exploring & embracing democracy

 Hamburg | Germany

28. October 202204. November 2022

The title “Spielräume” in German means “Play spaces”, it also means “scopes to act” in order to make things possible. It fits to the project, highlighting at the same time playful non-formal learning methods and our chances to co-create open spaces for participation and our potential to change things in the community and society.

This international, multilateral mobility project with participants from programme and partner countries arose from the common wish to strengthen youth work as a stakeholder, supporting and promoting democracy and confronting new antidemocratic tendencies in our countries.

We believe that democracy needs “lived and learned participation” and young people who are able to use spaces and opportunities to participate. One of the main tasks of youth work is to support young people’s participation and their growth as ‘active citizens’, who are able to act in democracy and think critically.

As the world, where the young people live and participate, has changed rapidly in recent years, youth workers need continued backing and qualification in their efforts to support youth in their participation.
